Why are oatmeal and white clay good in soap?

Varför är havremjöl och vitlera bra i tvål?

When we developed our new soap Oat & Kaolin, we wanted to create something simple, pure, and caring – a soap that skin truly craves. The result was a handmade organic soap with carefully selected ingredients that cleanse gently without disturbing the skin's natural balance.

In this post, we want to delve a little deeper into the ingredients behind the soap and explain why oats, kaolin clay, and nourishing vegetable oils are so highly valued in natural skincare.

Created for extra sensitive skin

Oat & Kaolin is completely unscented and thus free from essential oils. This makes it particularly appreciated by people with sensitive, dry, or reactive skin – but also by those of us who want a mild and safe soap for daily use.

The soap is suitable for the whole body: hands, body, and face, and is mild enough even for small children.

But what exactly makes it so gentle?

Colloidal oats – nature's soothing skincare

Oats have been used in skincare for generations, and it's easy to understand why. In our soap, we use both finely ground colloidal oats and nourishing oat oil.

Colloidal oats are extra finely ground oats that help soothe the skin and provide a soft, pleasant feeling. They are often used in products for dry and sensitive skin because they help the skin retain moisture and reduce feelings of irritation.

Oats naturally contain:

  • Beta-glucans that help the skin retain moisture

  • Antioxidants that protect the skin

  • Fatty acids that strengthen the skin barrier

  • Naturally soothing substances that can help irritated skin

This makes oats a fantastic ingredient in a mild, daily soap.

Oat oil – softening and nourishing

In addition to colloidal oats, the soap also contains organic oat oil. Oat oil is rich in essential fatty acids and vitamin E, which makes it particularly valued in skincare for dry and sensitive skin.

It helps to soften the skin and contributes to the creamy, nourishing feeling after washing. Many find that their skin feels less tight and more balanced when cleansing products are rich in nourishing and emollient oils instead of surfactants.

White kaolin clay – mild cleansing without drying out

Kaolin clay, also called white clay, is one of the mildest cosmetic clays used in natural skincare. It gently cleanses the skin by absorbing dirt and excess oil without feeling drying.

Unlike more powerful clays, kaolin is particularly suitable for:

  • Sensitive skin

  • Dry skin

  • Children's skin

  • Daily cleansing

In Oat & Kaolin, the clay also contributes to a silky smooth feel and a soft, creamy lather.

Shea butter and cocoa butter – rich hydration

One of the secrets behind the soft feeling of the soap is that it is generously superfatted with organic shea butter and cocoa butter.

Superfatting means that some of the nourishing oils and butters are left in the soap after saponification. This helps the skin maintain its natural moisture balance and makes the soap extra gentle.

Shea butter

Shea butter is rich in natural fatty acids and is often used to care for dry and sensitive skin. It provides a soft and creamy feel and helps the skin feel supple after washing.

Cocoa butter

Cocoa butter provides extra nourishment and helps to make the soap hard and durable while feeling rich and moisturizing.

Together, they create a soap that cleanses without the skin feeling dry afterward.

The base of organic oils

The soap's base consists of a balanced combination of organic oils and butters:

  • Olive oil – mild and nourishing

  • Coconut oil – provides cleansing and lather

  • Castor oil – contributes to a creamy and soft foam

  • Oat oil – softens and soothes the skin

  • Shea butter and cocoa butter – moisturize and protect

The balance between these ingredients is important to create a soap that both cleanses effectively and feels pleasant even with daily use.

Handmade in small batches

All our soaps are handmade in small batches using the traditional cold process method. Each soap:

  • Is hand-cut and hand-stamped

  • Is cured for at least 4 weeks

  • Is made without synthetic dyes or fragrances

  • Contains no preservatives

The long curing process makes the soap milder and more durable.

A simple routine for calm and balanced skin

In a world where many skincare products contain long ingredient lists and strong fragrances, a simple and well-thought-out soap can make a big difference.

Oat & Kaolin is created for those seeking:

  • Mild and natural cleansing

  • Unscented skincare

  • Organic ingredients

  • A soap for the whole family

  • A gentle soap for dry and sensitive skin

Sometimes, the skin simply needs less – not more. Our organic soap Oat & Kaolin is handmade with care for both skin and the environment. A mild, nourishing, and fragrance-free soap that works equally well at the sink and in the shower.

Please store the soap dry between uses so it lasts longer and maintains its fine quality.
